Sustainability

Our commitment to sustainability has been at the heart of everything we do for over 20 years. Our dedication to communities and the environment has seen Moores push the boundaries of sustainability by working with the industry organisations in order to raise the bar and set the standards that we have today.

We see it as our responsibility to extend our sustainability drive to ensure that our customers are able to source responsibly managed products that not only reduce the immediate impact on the environment but contribute long term.

NEW! Moores launches "Sustainability within the building industry" CPD training programme
As part of Moores continuing effort to promote Sustainability and the benefits within our industry, we are proud to announce that we will now be offering training in partnership with The Construction CPD Certification Service. Our first module looks at 'Sustainability within the building industry' and gives a brief overview of the current standards and ethics in place, paying special consideration to the Code for Sustainable Homes. This module also brings to attention how kitchen manufacturers can help their customers gain points for the Code, and looks at how our ReAction kitchen is already doing so. You can find out more by visiting our Business Centre and signing up to our CPD service today.

Sustainability Credentials
As a business that’s been successful for over 60 years, we at Moores have strong values. One area we are passionate about is protecting the environment: both our own environment and the bigger picture. To this end, we‘re constantly pushing the boundaries to ensure that, as part of our corporate social responsibility, we make spaces special, sustainably.

Here are the programmes, policies and initiatives that we’re particularly proud of:
  • Moores have been accredited with BS EN ISO 14001:2004. This system has set the standard for environmental management across the globe and it ensures that we at Moores are all working to the same high standards.
  • We have been proud members of Club Green for 17 years. Club Green annually audits our company, checking that we have robust environmental management systems in place.
  • Moores are members of FISP (the Furniture Industry Sustainability Programme). As members of the FISP steering committee, we have played an important part in developing this scheme which focuses on minimizing our consumption of materials and natural resources.
  • We have been awarded FSC Chain of Custody certification. The Forest Stewardship Council is an international organization that promotes the responsible management of the world’s forest.
  • We have been recognised for our hard work and had the honour of receiving several sustainability awards. We received the Constructing Excellence Legacy Award for sustainability for the Yorkshire and Humber region. We also received the Masco Innovation Award for implementing FSC across our business. Our plan for the future is to continue setting environmental standards and developing our sustainability strategy so that we can continue to really make a difference for our future.

Waste Management Service
At Moores, we are committed to helping our customers with their waste management programmes. Our waste management service is tailored to each individual project to ensure that the most sustainable solution is applied every time. In addition, we are also registered waste carriers, licensed to carry others controlled waste.

We are delighted to be able to offer our customers solutions that offer real value to their projects as well as making strong sustainable contributions to our local communities. For example, we have worked in partnership with Plymouth Community Homes and Apollo Group to set up a waste management programme for the wood waste produced from the Plymouth Community Homes refurbishments:
  • All wood waste from the project is 100% recycled and we have recycled 44.56 tonnes of wood waste from this project in 2010. That is the equivalent weight of 44 small cars.
  • The recycling of this wood waste has resulted in a massive saving against standard landfill charges and prevented 44.56 tonnes of waste going to landfill.
  • The waste from the Plymouth Community Homes was recycled into the following products; Wood chips for the panel board industry, Premier garden mulch, Springbed (Equestrian bedding and arena surfacing), Farm animal bedding for cattle, pig and poultry farms, Wood chip for golf course landscaping and Wood chips for bio fuel.
