Our environmental indicator above shows how much Water, Electricity and Carbon emissions we have saved since 1st Jan 2008.

Moores has been working on many activities that allowed us to reduce our Water and Electricity consumption as well as and Carbon emissions. Here are some of our achievements so far:

Water

A number of washrooms have been refurbished to include occupancy detectors, water control devices, mixer taps and waterless urinals, several others have just had water saving devices installed.  The condensate generated by the VSD compressor is collected, cleaned and used to flush the urinals in ‘A’ Block washrooms, saving approx. 25m3/year.

Electricity

• Electricity consumed per unit manufactured has been reduced by 19% since 2001 while producing approx. 3% more units.
• Energy efficient auto-dimming T5 fluorescent lighting is currently being installed in A & C Block.
• New VSD compressor installed in PVC doors reducing consumption by 85,000KWhrs.
• VSD (Variable Speed Drive) compressor and controller installed. The controller ensures that the most economical mix of compressors runs to suit the air demand, saving an estimated 400,000KWh/year.

Heating

• 2 woodwaste boilers provide heating for the factory and some outlying buildings, reduced consumption of gas-oil by some 300,000 litres/year, also removes 000’s tonnes of waste that used to go to landfill predominately and the associated transport/fuel savings.
• An energy management system has been installed to control the gas-oil and LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) fuelled heaters in the majority of the remaining outbuildings, resulting in a fuel saving of 25%.

Transport Fleet

• Fuel efficiency is monitored and improvement targets set.
• Achieved by introducing SAFED (Safe And Fuel Efficient Driving) techniques and training, latest engine technology (Euro 5 engines that will use Adblue additive to reduce emissions and increase fuel efficiency)
• Draw bar trailers, distribution hubs, low rolling resistance tyres (A type), specify bespoke gearing for high volume low weight loads, load planning, paragon as well as Direct 2 system.
